Telekom Austria comes out on top

Monday, January 07, 2008

Austrian Wirtschaftsblatt published the H&H Webranking 2007 Austria today. Telekom Austria topped the ranking, followed by Wienerberger and OMV. Austrian average scores have improved this year, but they still lag behind the European average.

Milan, January 2, 2008 –  Telekom Austria successfully defended its number one position in the Austrian H&H Webranking. Wienerberger and OMV placed second and third. New additions to the top ten were Verbund, Post and Raiffeisen International Bank.

Wiener Staedtische’s score jumped up 18.5 to 50 points, earning the corporate website the distinction of being this year’s ‘best improver’. Intercell and Zumtobel followed as second and third most improved websites this year.

On average Austrian scores increased by 4.3 (up 6.5% from 2006), to reach 44 points. This result is still significantly lower than the pan European average of 51.2 points for all 630 companies from the combined country rankings in the H&H Webranking survey. Particular areas of concern were the low scores received in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Corporate Governance sections.

The challenge is now to raise the level of not only the top performers, but all Austrian companies in the survey. In particular, effort needs to be made in moving from simple disclosure to providing more complete information in key areas such as financial information, CSR and corporate governance.
